A Wizard-Casting Spell - Post Jam Update


Heyo heyo! Here's a little update to A Wizard-Casting Spell to smooth out some rough edges, add a bit of game feel, and squash some nasty bugs. Thanks to everyone who played the jam version and gave me feedback! I didn't end up totally overhauling the game, but I'm satisfied with where it's ended up. Check it out!

New Features:

  • Holding the swap button slows down time! You can use this to plan you next move carefully, but be wary of your time meter at the top of the screen! If you deplete it, you won't be able to slow time until it fills again! You now warp upon release of the spacebar.
  • Added off-screen enemy indicators! One pain point for a lot of folks was not being aware of the positions of many of the enemies, catching them off-guard as they warped into a hairy situation. Now, red arrows around the edges of the screen will point to any enemies out of view, growing larger the closer they are to the edge of the screen!
  • New enemy type - Red Wizards! You'll have to play to find out what they do!
  • 13 new levels! Honestly, the old levels were made when I was super tired and lack a lot of design. I made a bunch of new levels that feel a little nicer to play, and introduce elements a little more smoothly. You can still play the old levels though, just select "Classic Levels" in the main menu!
  • Visual overhaul of the GUI! It's a bit less depressing now, and looks like it's been animated by a toddler!
  • Lots of new visual effects!
    • Damage popups!
    • Casting indicators for enemy cooldowns!
    • Indicators for when you are noticed (or lost) by enemies!
    • Lots of new particles!
    • A new visual indicator for the currently selected swap candidate!

Fixes and Other Things:

  • Players should no longer be able to launch themselves into the endless void
  • Bodies have a harder time passing through walls
  • AI of moving enemies tweaked to prevent stalling behind walls
  • Wizards wait until the width of their spells can pass before firing spells around corners
  • Swap invincibility has been extended to assist with last-moment maneuvers!
  • Particle caching system to assist with performance on WebGL
  • Glass walls have transparency
